Internal Economic Migration in India – Towards a world where labour is valued, migration is safe, secure and dignified.
The loss of traditional livelihoods and declining agricultural productivity in India has pushed nearly 140 million people to migrate internally in search of jobs, largely in the unregulated informal economy. This journey is often marked by job insecurity, unpaid wages, inaccessible social security and poor working conditions, leading to accidents and deaths. This discussion is to understand the state of internal migration, efforts to improve the conditions as well as challenges that remain. We invite all individuals and organisations interested in and/or working on this issue to join in this discussion and share their insights.
Guest speaker – Shri Krishnavatar Sharma, co-founder Ajeevika Bureau
Moderator – Shri Narender Paul, COO, Chinmaya Org. for Rural Development (CORD)
Format: Brief presentation by Shri Krishnavatar Sharma followed by an interaction moderated by Shri Narender Paul. We invite you to share your insights, raise issues and challenges, and help us all get a broad as well as deeper understanding of possibilities, answers, and opportunities.
